29 faces May Challenge

A friend pointed me to this challenge yesterday: to create 29 faces in any medium, size, technique and stage in the 31 days of May.

As I'm pretty much in faces lately anyway I signed up. Not so sure about the posting every day, but we'll see, right? :)

Thursday

My Creative Space - Faces, faces, faces...

After I finished the girl from the last post, I experienced almost 3 weeks of some kind of creative block, when I hardly could draw or paint. Part of the time I was occupied with preparations for the school as a teacher and a mom of 2 school kids and with translations. But most of the free time I spent watching Fringe, knitting, crocheting, decluttering our home etc. The 1st of September came with a new 29 faces challenge hosted by Martha aka Ayala Art, that gave the right kick to my precious b**t, so have been working at some kind of a face every day since than.

BTW: each of them is inspired by any of the e-courses I'm in for now and the first one sold, as soon, as I showed it on FB. YAY! :)

There is one more thing I want to show you. This is a Bok Choy I'm regrowing from a bottom of the last one I bought.

Faces - #3 of 29

Face #3 for the 29 Faces Challenge is a pretty quick sketch with two dry water color pastels  :)

Thursday is the day for creative spaces. So jump over to Our creative spaces to see more of them :)

Wednesday

Faces - #2 of 29

Face #2 for the 29 Faces Challenge is a pretty quick small sketch with a thick charcoal stick and a piece of school chalk :)

Faces - #23 of 29 and the first canvas started

Today, I'm extremely busy with a translation, 20 flower wreaths, and classes at school. So my face for the 29 faces challenge is only a quick sketch of my inner Frida with water soluble pencils. Unfortunately, I tried to add some water, but forgot about the kind of the paper :)
And this is a very significant day for me, as I started to work on my first ever canvas. It's tiny, but still, and I feel just AWESOMELICIOUS working on it!

Sorry for the pretty bad images, but it's 7 pm and not much of day light left here in the North. And did I say I'm in hurry? :)

Friday

Faces - #4 of 29

My face #4 for the 29 Faces Challenge is a tiny graphite drawing in my sketch book. This young beautiful nun was the last one I worked at last night. This morning, I woke up from an extremely vivid dream, in which I was a nun :)

Tuesday

Faces - 1 of 29

Yeee-haaaa! A new month, a new challenge! I spent half of the day drawing my first face for the 29 Faces' challenge! Sun is shining, daffodils are blooming, life's good!

Thursday

Face #10 of 29

As some of you know, I'm participating in the 29 Faces in May challenge and working on some kind of a face since the 1st of May every day. But today was pretty full with other things: a couple of Etsy sales to pack, a workshop at school, line dance practice and shopping in the evening besides of the daily care for my 2 youngest kids and 6 animals plus I slept in after watching some great videos last night. So my face for today is a graphite sketch from a photograph of my daughter I did a couple of days ago. I don't like it much, as it feels completely out of proportion and a bit of spooky, but she likes it :)

Tuesday

Faces - # 29 of 29

Today, I continued working at two faces. The first one is a real experiment for a Life Book class with Mystele.
The other one might be finished for real now :)
But a big part of the day, I spent fiddling on images of one of my mixed media paintings. As it is really hard to earn living from selling original art work even for established artists, my goal for the next future is to start seriously selling prints of my best works. After some research, I decided to upload my first high resolution images to this site and sold the first print right away (the buyer had previously asked me to sell a print to her). As a total beginner, I made a mistake in pricing and earned less than 2 euro for that, but that's OK. I still feel happy about it :)

What I don't feel so happy about to say the least is my tax report due in 2 days and barely started :)

Thursday

Artistic Challenges

It's the last day of May, so it's really time to show, what I've accomplished for the Creative Color Challenge . Here you go: one fairy tree almost finished...
... and some more in the works.
And some more paintings started in the given palette, but than other colors added.

And this is, how I feel about artistic challenges with a given palette or object:
- on one side, they keep me going, t.i., arting, trying out something I might not without them,
- on the other side, the more planning, the less freedom, the less fun and productivity for me :(

So I'm happy and thankful for the ones I've participated in, especially - for the 29 faces challenge, but I'm happy they are over and might not participate in them any more...

Friday

Tree blossoming

The tree blossoming season is my favorite time of the year. It is short and just over here. But it has been a really busy time for me with classes at school, my youngest son jumping on one leg for a month, an order for 20 flower wreaths, all the e-courses I'm in and the 29 faces challenge I managed to keep up. So I didn't find time and energy even to capture any of the blossoming trees with my camera, not to speak about drawig or painting any.

Yesterday, was the last school day here, and for the last couple of days my son has started to walk slowly :) YAY!
So today, I spent most of the day in my studio trying to put on paper my love for the amazing season of tree blossoming and the rich associations connected for me with that. And I had to notice one more time, that although I love to do abstract art and work quickly, I mostly end up spending hours and days working at one piece and creating something almost realistic :)

Can you believe, this (still not finished) ...
... started out like that? :)

Tuesday

Faces - #22 of 29

Although,  I'm not sure, how to finish the flower wreaths by this Thursday night, I accepted a pretty urgent translation project, as I need the money. But the spirit, which started to emerge from one of my backgrounds yesterday, is calling me all the time, and I managed to work on her a bit. I think, we are falling in love with each other :)

Thursday

Faces - #17 of 29

This week, I have been really busy with translations and a commission for 20 children flower head wreaths. Especially, the last one is a job, that gave me loads of stress at the beginning, but, as soon, as I figured out, what I can do in the short time with the materials I could get, it became pretty boring. The good thing with that is, that prepping and gluing down hundreds of similar flowers I can catch up on the videos I wanted to watch for some time already :)
So Tamara Laporte's 3 hours long video art class on honoring our past  inspired me to start this piece I consider finished today and am really happy with the result, especially with the textural yumminess on the hair and the background (used even a home made paste to create it) :)

Tamara suggested to find some words to honor my past and to add them to the background. My words would be: I HONOR MY PAST FOR IT REVEALED WHO I AM, but I don't like adding words to my paintings, so I let some gold color patina symbolize my appreciation for everything I have experienced so far during this life time.

Friday

Faces - #25 of 29

My face for today is a more developed version of a portrait you have seen 3 times on my blog already - here, here, and here - and, probably, on Facebook as well :) Taking it easy today after all the working stress.

Monday

Faces - #21 of 29 and other news

My face for today is another work in progress: an image starting to emerge from a background created for the creative color challenge hosted by Louise Gale.

The other news:
* as you see, I have changed the name of my site, as I really start to believe in me as an artist, who can add value to other people's lives with her work
* in addition to my first Facebook page devoted to my crafts, yesterday, I created a new one for my fine arts
* I'm pretty clear about seriously starting to offer prints of my works through www.deviantART.com

Thank you so much, all my dear friends all over the world, for all the support I have already received and, am sure, will experience in future! Your feedback is always welcome!

Wednesday

Faces - #16 of 29

This is, how far I've got today with a face I started yesterday, before it became too dark (it's covered and rainy here and, on Wednesdays, I'm pretty busy at school). Honestly speaking, she is by far not so smooth and doll-ish, as she looks. So stay tuned, she can change her appearance drastically :D

Monday

Faces - #14 of 29

My "face" for today is a try of a folk fairy for an e-course with Suzi Blu. As I don't have the Prismacolor or any other soft pencils to do it the suggested way, I'm trying to find my way to do it with the supplies I have :)

Saturday

Faces - #19 of 29

My face for today is a WIP - this girl mostly in water colors. My day started with an exercise in the Life Book e-course by Tamara Laporte supposed to honor my now. And, as I went on with it and started to visualize my thoughts and feelings, my inner little girl showed up with wings made of support and love by my extremely loving and supportive on-line friends and myself during the last year, that culminated in changing the name of my blog last night and a pretty clear vision of the ways I decided to go to develop and put out her/my fine art into the buying world in the coming months. She seems really to be ready to fly, doesn't she? :)

Friday

Faces - #18 of 29

Today, I felt pretty lethargic and absolutely not like drawing or painting, so my face is just a quick sketch using a thick charcoal stick and my fingers

Sunday

Faces - #27 of 29

Today, I spent my day mostly watching inspiring videos and working at a portrait most of you must have seen at least a couple of times already :) Although there might be still some fiddling done on the details, it feels finished to me all in all. What do you think?
