Saturday

The Feather Project

Do you remember my post from last week about starting to work at feathers for Yanik's project. They are finished and on their way to Canada now.

As I often do, I chose a different technology than suggested. That made my process pretty challenging. :)

At first, I just splashed and spritzed inks and acrylic paints onto pages from my kids' old school workbooks. Layer after layer.

I had 6 sheets going on at the same time, but didn't want to flood Yanik's project with my feathers. So, I chose 2 of them to draw stylized feathers on with a gold marker.

I selected 6 I liked the most, but, when I started to glue them down, they all started to scrunch and bleed.

Obviously, the very fluid acrylic varnish I used was not the best for this type of paper.

When the sheet was dry, I was happy to see, that most of the feathers looked still usable.

So, I grabbed my scissors ... only to discover, that the good heavy cardboard was too sturdy for them. And my punch turned out to be too weak for the job as well. :)

If I wanted to give my feathers any good chance to reach their destination in time, waiting until I get new supplies was not an option.

So my old paper knife and awl had to do the job.

At the very end, I refreshed the gold marker, inserted a fuzzy yarn into the holes, and sent them out to Yanik. I really hope they arrive in time :)

(Sorry for the poor quality of the images, but day light has been scarce here lately.)

Wednesday

Playing Again!

In one of the Facebook groups I am in, there is that challenge "What's On Your Desk Wednesday". And, after months, I can show an image of my studio desk, where I am playing with recycled paper, paints, and inks for the first time after months. YAY! :)

I'm not sure, why it took me so long (but I have some theories). But I am sure this artist collaboration project initiated by Yanik Falardeau got me starting again! There is still time for you to join in as well.

Sunday

Knitting knitting ...

I have been knitting quite a load through the full Moon, Lunar eclipse and the storm we got on top of them here.

On Friday, I finished this pair of leftover socks started who knows when.

Yesterday, I spent most of the day knitting and finishing this sleeve for my daughter's (much less fancy) laptop.
(Sorry for the bad quality of the images, but it's all covered and really dark here today.)

Now, I have started a pair of socks for one of my adult sons. He and his family will be visiting by the end of the months.

Would have knitted more for them already, but I need to take their measurements first. We all here can't wait for them to arrive. This will be the first time we'll see my granddaughter in real life. YAY!

Thursday

Knitting Galore Still Going On

On Sunday, I started to knit something for the first time in my life. And after 5 decades of knitting, believe me, there is not much left in that category. :)

Needed a couple of days to figure out the best design, yarn and technology for the purpose and the anticipated user.

Yesterday, I posted this image in various places on Facebook to let my friends guess, what it would be. It was so much fun! :D

Now, it's finished. And if your guess was a sleeve for a laptop, you were right!

My youngest son got a high end laptop as a stimulating present from one of his aunts for his studies as a multimedia designer he started in September.

The device needs to be transported back and forth between the school and our home outside the town by public transportation without drawing too much attention to it.

So it needs to be protected. Now, it has its own sleeve. My son and I, both love, how it turned out! YAY!

I even used a special technology to knit and finish it up in one piece to avoid any seams.

Now, my daughter wants such a sleeve for her laptop as well, only in a different color. :) So, stay tuned, peeps!

(Sorry for the different hues of blue in the images! It's really tricky to get them straight with as less day light as we have here lately.)

I really might stay with knitting for a while now, at least for the days (weeks, months) with less natural light here in the North.

I really love to knit for the time being, and there is one very pleasant additional side effect: if I create, while listening to or watching something, it works as an antidote to emotional eating :)

Saturday

Just a Couple of Strokes

Time and energy just seems to be seeping away through my fingers, so my "piece" for this week are just a couple of charcoal strokes on a large painting I started in this one day course with Shiloh Sophia McCloud back in July :)

Sunday

Back on the Creative Track

OK, folks, I'm back on the creative track. YAY!

My sister wanted a green lacy scarf for her birthday. So, as soon, as I finished and delivered a huge translation project (on Tuesday), it was almost only knitting and TV shows. :)

I'm a fast knitter, but, as I hadn't done it for a while, it took me about 10 attempts to figure out the right design. :) Today, we had a small family party, and I could give it to her. She liked it! Phew!

Now, to other projects!
