Loving The Process

So, I have participated in those 2 free year long art journal projects every day so far: pondering the prompts, selecting images, shooting pics, gluing, painting, brayering, layering, doodling, writing, interacting in the respective Facebook groups, and, generally, having much fun. :)

Yesterday, I even stumbled upon this great material about the therapeutic benefits of art journaling.

This is, how my covers and first spreads look for now.

(Sorry for the funny direction of the last one, but blogger wouldn't flip it back :D

As far, as I know me and my style, I'm pretty sure most of them aren't finished yet. And I'm taking my time, as I really love to be in this process again. :)

Solstice Goddess

Lately, I don't paint much, as I'm participating in loads of on-line courses, most of them - not art related.

But do you remember my Solstice piece?

This is, where we are now.

An additional bonus: doing my research about Latvian deities, I "stumbled upon" a lovely lady from US and her blog.

Another Experiment - Eco Printing

A couple of days ago, one of the participants of the A Piece A Week challenge, showed us an image of her hand bound journal with eco-prints as covers. I had never heard of eco-printing, but being an eco freak I couldn't help but do some research, if and how I could try this method as well. After I stumbled upon these detailed instructions by Cassandra Tondro, my hands were aching to try it out. As usually, I didn't have more of the suggested supplies and tools than I did. Besides: after the long winter, we still don't have green grass not to speak about colorful leaves or flowers. But today, I found tiny spring flowers during my morning walk with the dog and just had to give this process a try. So I did, what I could with what I had :)

First, I tore some water color paper in smaller pieces using the suggested method: folding it back and forth and dampening the folds.

Then, I soaked the paper in warm water for more than an hours (honestly, I forgot about it).

After that, I arranged the tiny flowers and leaves on one of the pieces of paper (sorry, forgot to shoot a pic), covered it with another piece of paper, put a folded newspaper beneath and on top of the "sandwich" and ... ironed it for a while.

When I could not stand the suspension any more, I stopped ironing and opened the sandwich. Ta-dah! Behold my first ever eco-prints!

An additional plus from the ironing: the prints are almost dry by the end of the process. A minus: need to clean the iron of the black newspaper ink now. Next time, I will put a piece of paper towel on top of the stack :)

Some More Blue

On Tuesday, my health had improved enough to go to the Evening Studio in the town, so I could continue working at the painting I started there. First of all, I added some of the blue glimmer mist from The Tattered Angels Paint System I received a week ago.

Then, I continued listening to it and my intuition as to what else needs to be added. When we left, it looked like this, and I have the feeling it's not far from being finished.

Now, I have to start thinking about a new surface to start a new painting on over there :)

Do you remember the blue vortex inspired by a video with Mooji from the same week? Last week, I've continued to work at it as well, as it felt too "blue" and too shallow for my liking. At some point, it looked almost completely black.

This is, how it looks now. I like it much more, but I definitely don't like the lines caused by the frame beneath the thin canvas, so I'm preparing new canvases for future paintings covering them completely with snippets of paper, some - even with more than one layer. And I think, I will paint over the collage with some dark color(s) as well.
